This page is dedicated to 34 people from Amol whose names appear with a source in our list. Amol, a city in the province of Mazandaran, has two faces in this list: 18 of these names were killed in protests and 14 were executed. Of the two others, one lost their life in suspicious circumstances and the other was killed by government forces outside of protests. The earliest date on this page is 21 Mordad 1393 and the latest 24 Khordad 1405.
Years
The names from Amol are not spread evenly across the years. From each of the years 1393 and 1394 there is only one name on this page, and from the year 1400 two names. Then comes the year 1401 with 15 names, which has the largest share in the list for Amol. From 1402 one name has been recorded, from 1403 four names, from 1404 eight names and from 1405 so far two names.
Among the days, 30 Shahrivar 1401 with 5 names is the heaviest day for Amol; on this one day five people from Amol lost their lives. The day 28 Ordibehesht 1401 with 2 names comes after it. The other days in this list, including 21 Mordad 1393, 30 Azar 1394 and 10 Mehr 1400, have one name each.
Ages, women and children
The youngest person from Amol in this list was 15 years old and the oldest 58. The median of the ages is 31 years. 3 of these 34 people were under 18 years of age; children whose names appear on this page. 4 people are women, and this is only the number of women whose source clearly stated that they were women.
Ghazaleh Chelavi
For only one of the people of Amol do details of life and death appear in the sources. Ghazaleh Chelavi was a mountaineer. According to the source, she “was killed in one of the recent protest demonstrations in Amol by a bullet from security agents to her forehead”; the day of her death is recorded as 30 Shahrivar 1401, the same day that is the heaviest day of this page. The report on the cause of death says: “Cause of death: hit by a bullet.”
Her age in our record is 33 years, but the report on her burial refers to her as a “32-year-old mountaineer”; we keep this discrepancy between the sources as it is. Her funeral was held on Tuesday, 5 Mehr. The source adds: “It is said that her organs were donated to eight patients.”
About the other 33 people, nothing appears in our sources apart from name, date, fate and sometimes age. Behind each of these 33 names there was a life that has not yet been told.
About the sources and the incompleteness of this list
These 34 names are not all of those from Amol who were executed or killed. The real number is higher; many executions and deaths were not reported, or the name of the person killed did not appear in the news. We record only a name for which we have a source. The largest share of the sources for this page is held by the Iran Human Rights Society with 28 cases; followed by the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 11, Persian Wikipedia with 9 and English Wikipedia with 7 cases. iranhrs.org has reported 4 cases, and hra, HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran and Iran International 3 cases each. dw.com and aznews.tv also have 2 cases each.
Behind every name from Amol there is at least one source, but some records rest on only one report and may contain errors in age, date or the spelling of the name. If you knew one of these 34 people, if you were a neighbour, classmate or mountaineering companion of one of them in Amol, send us your memory or correction so that their lives, and not only their names, remain on this page.
