About this list
This list keeps the names of people whose lives the Islamic Republic took, or who now face execution — from 2009 (Iranian year 1388) until today.
We call those who lost their lives Javid-Nam (Persian «جاویدنام», “everlasting name”): their names live on. The uprising of Dey 1404 (January 2026) is also referred to as the “Lion and Sun Revolution”.
This list is not complete
This list is not complete. The real number of victims is far higher: many names have never been published, families are under pressure, and our sources cannot reach everywhere. A name is only added together with its source.
Many families do not make the names of their loved ones public out of fear. For many executions, especially drug cases and executions in remote prisons, no name is ever published. Every year human-rights organisations report hundreds of cases with only an age or a city. We never add a name without a source, so the number of names here will always be lower than the real number of victims. Published estimates are on the statistics page.
Who is on this list
- People who were executed — on any charge. We give the charge as the authorities or the sources named it, not our own judgement.
- People killed by state forces in protests, at the borders (kolbars and fuel porters), at checkpoints or during arrest.
- People who died in detention or prison.
- The victims of flight PS752, shot down by the Revolutionary Guards, and people whose killing abroad a court or government attributed to the Islamic Republic.
- People sentenced to death, or charged with an offence punishable by death.
Members of the security forces, victims of foreign attacks, victims of ordinary crime and people who were only arrested are not on this list. People killed in armed clashes are kept separately.
How we work
- Every name has at least one direct link to a page that names the person.
- The name and a sentence from the source are checked automatically against that page; whatever cannot be found is left out.
- Life details (occupation, family, words of relatives) are only quoted directly from the source, never rewritten. On the English and German pages they are translated, with the Persian original one click away.
- Two entries count as one person only if name, kind of event and date or place agree. People with the same name stay separate.
- Family and friendship links are shown only where a sentence in a source names both people.
- Gender is recorded only where a source states it; we do not guess from names.
Main sources
Abdorrahman Boroumand Center (Omid memorial), HRANA, Iran Human Rights, Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Iran Human Rights Society, Haalvsh, Iran International, Radio Farda, Independent Persian, Amnesty International, Wikipedia and United Nations reports. Every person’s page lists all of their sources.
Names in three languages
We give names in Persian and Latin script as the sources write them. Where no source gives a Latin spelling, we build a transliteration from names whose two spellings both appear in sources, and mark it with an asterisk (*).
You can help
If a name is missing, if something is wrong, or if you knew one of the Javid-Nam, please use the submission form. Everything is checked against a source before it is published.
