This page is dedicated to 29 people from Bam whose names appear with a source in our list. Almost all of them, that is, 28 people, were executed, and one person was killed in protests. The earliest date in this list is 5 Khordad 1390 and the latest 5 Esfand 1404. In this list Bam is above all a city of gallows; a city in the province of Kerman whose prison has appeared again and again in the reports of the sources as a place of execution.
The face of the years and ages
The names from Bam are gathered in a few years: one name in the year 1390, one name in 1392, 4 names in 1393, one name in 1401, 2 names in 1402 and 20 names in the year 1404. That is, more than half of this list goes back to the year 1404 alone. Two days in this list are repeated twice, because on each of them two people died: 12 Bahman 1393 and 11 Khordad 1404.
The youngest person on this page was 16 years old and the oldest 35. The median of the ages is 30 years. So the list for Bam is a list of the young; men most of whom had not yet reached the age of forty. One person in this list was under 18 years of age, and this is a child who must not be forgotten. The sources have also clearly written of one person that she was a woman.
Five lives the sources have told of
For 5 of the people of Bam, details of life appear in the sources. Sadegh Shahsavaripour was 32 years old. The sources write that “his job was driving a truck” and that he “loved driving very much.” He was “the son of Sakineh and Davoud” and “was single and had studied up to middle school.” About his case it says that he “never revealed the names of the real owners of the drugs hidden in his vehicle.” According to the source, on 5 Khordad 1390 he was hanged “together with his cousin” in the prison of the city of Bam. His name is the first name on this page.
Keyvan Shahbakhsh was 30 years old and was executed on 12 Azar 1404. All we know of him is that he was “married and the father of one child”; a child who now grows up without a father. Mohammad Saboki, 35 years old, was executed on 15 Mehr 1404, and the source introduces him as “the father of two children.” Gholam Nemati was 28 years old, “single,” and was executed on 27 Mehr 1404; only twelve days after Mohammad Saboki.
Hossein Mirdoust, “son of Shahbakhsh,” was executed in Esfand 1393. The source does not even know the exact day and writes that he “was hanged on 2 or 3 Esfand 1393 in the central prison of the city of Bam.” This very uncertainty about a single day shows that executions in this city were often carried out silently and that news of them reached the outside world late and incompletely. His age is not recorded in the source.
About the sources and the incompleteness of this list
These 29 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Bam. The real number is higher, and many executions were never reported or the name of the executed person did not appear in the news. We record only a name for which we have a source. The largest share of the sources for this page is held by the Iran Human Rights Society with 16 cases, HRANA with 14 cases and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 7 cases; Haalvsh has reported 5 cases, and HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran and Iran International one case each. Behind every name there is at least one source, but some records rest on only one report and may contain errors in age, date or the spelling of the name.
If you knew one of these 29 people, if you were a neighbour of their family or spent a day beside them in Bam Prison, send us your memory or correction. Every sentence of their lives that is added to this page brings a name out of oblivion.
