This page holds 32 names from Jiroft, a city in the province of Kerman. The list for Jiroft is almost entirely a list of executions: 31 of these 32 people were hanged and one person was killed by government forces outside the protests. The first date on this page is 7 Esfand 1393 and the last 5 Esfand 1404. Each of these names is someone whose return a family in Jiroft or its surrounding villages was waiting for. Only one name on this page has a fate other than the gallows, and that too is a death that occurred at the hands of government forces and outside any protest.
The trend of the years
In the first years, the names are scattered: 2 names in 1393, one name in 1400 and 2 names in 1401. But from the year 1402 the number rises: 3 names in 1402, 7 names in 1403 and 17 names in the year 1404. In other words, most of the names on this page go back to the last two years alone. Three days on this list have two names: 7 Esfand 1393, 6 Dey 1403 and 6 Shahrivar 1404; days on which two people from this city were executed together.
The recorded ages range from 24 to 54 years, and the median is 35 years. Those executed in Jiroft were mostly men who had a family and children. The sources have clearly written of 3 people that they were women. No one under 18 is recorded on this list.
Three fathers
The sources have recorded details for only 3 of these 32 people, and these details are all about family. Asad Amini, 27 years old, and Saman Fakhri, 33 years old, were both executed on the same day, 6 Dey 1403. For each of them the source has one sentence: “married and with one child.” Two children lost their father on one day; two wives were left alone on one day. We do not know whether these two men knew each other or were only placed side by side at the last dawn of their lives.
Fereydoun Nasirinejad Narouei was 35 years old and was executed on 13 Azar 1402. The source writes about him only: “with four children.” Four children who from that day on grow up without a father. These few words are all that the sources have kept of the lives of these three men; but these few words show that an execution in Jiroft does not take away only one person, but leaves a home without its pillar.
Silence about the rest
For the other twenty-nine people on this page, the sources have recorded nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know what work they did, in which neighbourhood they lived or who wept for them. This silence is part of how executions take place in cities like Jiroft: the news items are short, are sometimes published several days later, and the names of the families do not appear in them. Whatever we learn of the lives of these people will come from those who knew them.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 32 names are not all of those from Jiroft who lost their lives. The real number is higher, and many executions were reported without names or not reported at all. We record only a name for which we have found a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 22 cases, HRANA with 16 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 5 cases, Haalvsh with 4 cases and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network with 2 cases. Behind every name there is at least one source, but some entries rest on only one report. If you knew one of those executed in Jiroft, we ask you to send us your memory or correction.
