This page keeps the memory of 24 people whose names are linked with Kashmar. 22 of them were executed and 2 were killed in protests. The first date on this page is 26 Farvardin 1395 and the last 6 Esfand 1404. The list for Kashmar is the list of one year: 20 of the 24 names belong to the year 1404.
One year, twenty names
Before 1404, the names from Kashmar can be counted on one hand: one name in 1395, from 26 Farvardin 1395, with which the list begins; one name in 1396, on 22 Mordad; one name in 1398, on 19 Mordad; and one name in 1401. Then in the year 1404, 20 people on this page lost their lives. In that year, the days 3 Dey 1404 and 24 Dey 1404 have two names each. That is, even on the days when the streets of many cities were full of protesters, the gallows were also standing in Kashmar.
Ages
What stands out most on the page for Kashmar is the age of its people; here we see no one at the beginning of youth. The youngest person whose age we know was 30 years old and the oldest 51, and the median age is 43 years. Those executed in Kashmar were middle-aged men; fathers who very probably left families without a breadwinner. The sources have written of one person that she was a woman. No one under 18 is recorded on this page.
Reza Sarani
The only name on this page with a description, however short, is Reza Sarani. He was 51 years old; the oldest person on this list. He was executed on 23 Shahrivar 1404. The source has written only two words about him: “father of two children.” These two words, which appeared in a short news item, are all that has reached us of the life of a fifty-one-year-old man. We do not know what work he did, how old his children are, or when he last saw them.
The charge attributed to Reza Sarani and the others executed in Kashmar is the account of the authorities or the sources, and this page does not regard it as a verdict of their guilt.
Twenty-three other names
For the rest of this page, including the two people who were killed in protests and the woman on this list, our sources have nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know who the twenty people from this city who lost their lives in the year 1404 were and who waited for them. Only one of the 24 people appears in our sources with details of life. In the sources, only one person is attributed to the province of Razavi Khorasan, and for the rest no province is recorded.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 24 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Kashmar. The real number is higher, and many executions were either reported without names or never reported; Kashmar appears in our list only with names that a report has recorded. The sources of this page are HRANA with 15 cases and one further case, the Iran Human Rights Society with 10 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network with 3 cases each, iranhrs.org with 2 cases, and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (English-language), Persian Wikipedia and Iran International with one case each. Every name on this page has at least one source. Most entries rest on one or two reports and may contain errors in age or date.
If you knew one of these 24 people, if you know the family of Reza Sarani or of one of those executed in the year 1404, we ask you to send us a memory, a photo or a correction.
