This page keeps the memory of 31 people whose names are linked with Malard; 27 of them are recorded in the province of Tehran and 4 in the province of Alborz. Only one fate appears in the list for Malard: all of these 31 people were killed in protests. The first date on this page is 25 Aban 1398 and the last 19 Dey 1404. In this list Malard is the city of two uprisings, each on two consecutive days.
Aban 1398 and Dey 1404
16 names belong to the year 1398: 7 people were killed on 25 Aban 1398 and 4 people on 26 Aban 1398, and for the rest the sources have not recorded the exact day. Six years later, 15 names were added from the year 1404: 6 people were killed on 18 Dey 1404 and 4 people on 19 Dey 1404, and for the rest of the names of that year the day does not appear in the sources. That is, in Malard just four days account for more than half of all the names on this page.
Those whose age we know were between 18 and 52 years old, and the median age is 33 years. No one under 18 is recorded on this page. The sources have written of one person that she was a woman, and she is one of the two people on this page for whom we have a description of life.
Fereshteh Keshavarzi
Fereshteh Keshavarzi was 49 years old. The source introduces her as “a farmer” and “mother of two children.” According to the Hana Human Rights Organization, she was a Kurdish citizen from Harsin county in the province of Kermanshah. She was killed on Friday, 19 Dey 1404, during the protests. The source writes: “The shooter was a sniper, and the bullet struck her head.”
Her body, according to the source, “was buried in the ‘Behesht-e Rezvan Parand’ cemetery in Robat Karim, Tehran.” A woman who had spent her life working the land was laid to rest far from her birthplace. Her two children are now without a mother.
Amirabbas Jafarizadeh
Amirabbas Jafarizadeh was 35 years old, and the source writes: “He was originally from ‘Ilam’ and worked and lived in Karaj.” He was killed on 18 Dey 1404. According to the source, “government agents fired two bullets into the main artery of his leg, but those who washed his body at the time of burial saw many bruises on his body.” This sentence leaves a question that still has no answer: between being shot and dying, what happened to him?
His family waited ten days. According to the source, “Amirabbas Jafarizadeh's body was handed over to his family ten days later at the ‘Kahrizak’ forensic medicine centre.”
Twenty-nine other names
For the other twenty-nine people on this page, including all of those killed in Aban 1398, our sources have recorded nothing but a name and sometimes an age and a date. We do not know who the seven people were who gave their lives in Malard on 25 Aban 1398, what work they did and whom they left behind. This emptiness itself shows that the story of those days has not yet been written.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 31 names are not all of those killed in Malard. The real number is higher, and the names of many, especially from Aban 1398, have not yet been published; Malard appears in our list only with names that have a source. The sources of this page are Amnesty International and HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 14 cases each, Persian Wikipedia with 13 cases, Iran International with 12 cases, IranWire with 7 cases, iranhrs.org with 6 cases, Kurdpa with 2 cases, and Voice of America, Atheist Iran and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with one case each. Some entries have only one source.
