This page keeps the memory of 37 people of Malayer, in the province of Hamadan. 31 of them were executed and 6 were killed in protests. The first date on this page is 23 Ordibehesht 1404 and the last 6 Mehr 1405. Almost all of these names, 36 names, belong to one year: the year 1404. Only one name goes back to the year 1405.
The year 1404 in Malayer
In the year 1404, Malayer saw both the gallows and a bloody street. Several days in this year have two names each: 5 Mehr 1404 and 29 Bahman 1404, on each of which two people were executed, and 18 Dey 1404 and 19 Dey 1404, on each of which two people were killed in protests. The executions had begun before Dey and continued after it.
The ages range from 20 to 68 years, and the median is 37 years. The sources have written of one person that she was a woman. No one under 18 is recorded on this page.
Mojtaba Ziadi and Ehsan Souri
Mojtaba Ziadi was 33 years old, and the source writes: “He was a cabinet designer and maker.” According to the source, “the armed forces of the government targeted Mojtaba with their weapons at the beginning of ‘Ghaem-Magham’ Boulevard in Malayer.” Our list has recorded the date 18 Dey 1404 for him, although one of the reports speaks of 19 Dey. He was buried on 22 Dey.
Ehsan Souri, 44 years old, was a steel fixer. On 19 Dey 1404, according to the source, “government forces aimed their weapons at Ehsan's heart on ‘Khomeini Square’ in Malayer.” The source adds: “Ehsan's family paid 400 million tomans to the Islamic Republic for the handover of their loved one's body.”
Two men who worked with their hands, one who made cabinets and the other who fixed steel, were killed on two consecutive days at two points in the same city. The family of one of them was forced to pay money to get back the body of their loved one.
Mohammadreza Sabzi
Mohammadreza Sabzi, 20 years old, the youngest person on this page, was executed on 23 Ordibehesht 1404; the first name on this list. The source has only one word about him: “unmarried.” A young man who had not yet begun his life was hanged. Whatever charge appears in Mohammadreza's case is the account of the authorities, and this page does not regard it as a verdict of his guilt.
What we do not know
For most of those executed in Malayer, of whom there are thirty-one, our sources have recorded nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know who the oldest person on this page, who was 68 years old, was and how they lost their life, and we do not know whom those who were executed two by two on 5 Mehr and 29 Bahman 1404 left behind. Details of life are available for only 3 people.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 37 names are not all of those from Malayer who lost their lives. The real number is higher, and many executions remained without names; Malayer appears in our list only with names that have a report behind them. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 23 cases, HRANA with 19 and 5 cases, Iran International with 4 cases, iranhrs.org and IranWire with 2 cases each, and iranwire.com and Iran Human Rights with one case each. Some entries have only one source.
If you knew one of these 37 people, if you worked with Mojtaba in the cabinet workshop, fixed steel with Ehsan on the same building, or have news of the family of one of those executed in Malayer, we ask you to send us a memory, a photo or a correction. Every sentence about the lives of these 37 people, especially about the lives of those executed, that reaches us carries one more name from a list to a story.
