Hossein Javadi
The only person on this page of whose life something appears in the sources is Hossein Javadi. He was 42 years old, the oldest person on this list, and was executed on 25 Mordad 1402. The source has written only three words about him: “father of a disabled child.” These three words are enough for us to know that with his execution, a child who needed a father more than others was left more unprotected. We do not know how old his child is, who now looks after the child, or what work Hossein Javadi did and in which neighbourhood he lived. Hossein Javadi's charge was determined by the court; this page does not regard it as proof of his guilt.
Names that are only names
For the other thirty-four people on this page, our sources have recorded nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know who the four people were who were executed together on 8 Esfand 1393 and whether they knew each other. We do not know what lives the two women on this list had and whom they left behind. We do not know how the seven people who were executed in the year 1395 spent their last days. The executions in Maragheh, as this list shows, have mostly taken place in silence, and the news of them, if it arrived at all, was only a name and a date.
The charge attributed to each of these 35 people is what the authorities or the sources have stated, and this page does not regard it as a verdict of their guilt.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 35 names are not all of those who were executed in Maragheh. The real number is higher, and many executions were either reported without names or never reported; Maragheh appears in our list only with names that have at least one report. Almost all of the names on this page, 30 cases, come from the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center; after it come the Iran Human Rights Society with 5 cases and HRANA with 2 cases.
