This page keeps the memory of 26 people whose names are linked with Shahinshahr in the province of Isfahan. 25 of them were killed in protests and one person faces a charge that carries the death penalty. All the dates recorded on this page fall within a few days of Dey 1404: from 18 Dey 1404 to 22 Dey 1404. The list for Shahinshahr is the list of one week.
Five days in Dey
Of those whose day of death is known, 6 people were killed on 18 Dey 1404, 4 people on 19 Dey 1404, one person on 20 Dey 1404 and one person on 22 Dey 1404. For 25 people the year 1404 is recorded, but for many of them the sources have not written the exact day. Those whose age we know were between 18 and 50 years old, and the median age is 28 years. No adolescent under 18 is recorded on this page, and no woman whose being a woman a source has stated explicitly is on it either.
Ali Aram
Ali Aram, 29 years old, had a café restaurant, “was the eldest child of the family,” and the source writes about him: “He was a bodybuilder and the smile never left his lips.” After four years of engagement he was about to get married. The source says: “They say he helped everyone so much that now his friends and relatives feel they have lost the head of the family.” On 19 Dey 1404, when he was returning home from his workplace, he was killed by a military bullet at the corner of Nezami Street in Shahinshahr. After several days his body was buried in Section 20 of Behesht-e Masoumeh in Shahinshahr.
Reza Bahmani Alijanvand
Reza Bahmani Alijanvand was 34 years old and married and “worked as a forklift driver in a brick factory.” One of those close to him has said: “Reza worked from morning till night. He was intensely patriotic and hoped for the freedom of Iran.” The source writes that he believed Prince Reza Pahlavi would return to the country. After taking part in the protests of 18 Dey he disappeared; two military bullets had struck him, one in the lower back and the other in the abdomen. On 24 Dey his family identified his body in the morgue of the Bagh-e Rezvan cemetery.
Mohammadreza Ghorbani and Milad Ataei
Mohammadreza Ghorbani, 18 years old, according to the source “was their only child.” He was killed on 18 Dey 1404 by a military bullet. His family received his body five days after his death, and “Mohammadreza's father identified his body by the tattoo on his hand.” A father who recognised his only child by a design on the skin.
Milad Ataei, 32 years old, was “one of the firefighters employed at the Isfahan refinery.” His friends regarded him as one of the technical and active members of industrial firefighting. He was killed in Dey 1404 by a military bullet to the head; a man whose work was to save others from fire.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 26 names are not all of those killed in Shahinshahr. The real number is higher, and in those days the names of many were not recorded; for Shahinshahr, too, we have included only names that have appeared in a report. The sources of this page are HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 20 cases, Iran International with 13, iranhrs.org with 8, Iran International and the Iran Human Rights Society with 4 each, iranintl.com with 3, and www.iranintl.com, independentpersian.com and HRANA with 2 cases each. 2 names also appear in a list that the Office of the Presidency published on 12 Bahman 1404. Some entries rest on only one report. As for the person facing a charge that carries the death penalty, this is a charge the authorities have stated, not a verdict of guilt.
If you knew one of these 26 people, send us your memory or correction.
