This page keeps the memory of 22 people of Shahrekord, the capital of the province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari. 15 of them were executed and 7 were killed in protests. The first date on this page is 4 Azar 1401 and the last 11 Mehr 1405. Almost all of the names from Shahrekord are gathered in one year: 20 names belong to the year 1404, one name to 1401 and one name to 1405.
The year 1404 in Shahrekord
In the year 1404, Shahrekord saw both executions and killing in the street. Before the month of Dey, executions were recorded one after another: 2 people on 27 Mehr 1404, one person on 28 Aban 1404 and one person on 10 Azar 1404. Then on 18 Dey 1404, 2 people of this city were killed in protests. And after that, according to the source, one of those arrested in those same protests was executed.
The ages range from 17 to 40 years, and the median is 32 years. One person on this list was under 18; an adolescent whose name appears alongside the adults on this page. The sources have written of one person that she was a woman; she is the one with whose name the list for Shahrekord begins.
Maryam Ghorbanipour
Maryam Ghorbanipour was 34 years old. The source writes: “She was a doctoral student at the University of Tehran.” She was killed in protests on 4 Azar 1401. The cause of her death is given in the source as follows: “as a result of baton blows to her head.” But according to the source, “they announced the cause of her death as an accident.” Her body “was buried in the new Behesht-e Rahmat cemetery of Shahrekord.”
A woman who had studied for years to reach a doctorate was killed by a baton blow, and then, in the official account, her death was turned into an accident. Her name is the first name on this page and the only name from the year 1401 in the list for Shahrekord.
Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi
Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi, son of Khodamorad, is the last name on this page. The source writes that he “had been sentenced to death on the charge of ‘moharebeh’” (enmity against God). This is a charge that the court attributed to him, not a verdict of his guilt. According to the source, “the judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced that the death sentence of Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi, one of those arrested in the protests of Dey 1404 in Shahrekord, has been carried out.” His sentence was carried out in Mehr 1405. His age is not recorded in our sources.
These two names, the beginning and the end of the list for Shahrekord, are both tied to protest: one was killed in the street and the other was hanged after being arrested in the protests.
Other names
For the other twenty people on this page, our sources have written nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know who those executed in Mehr, Aban and Azar 1404 were, and we do not know what lives those killed in Shahrekord on 18 Dey 1404 had. The charge attributed to each of those executed is what the authorities or the sources have stated.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 22 names are not all of those from Shahrekord who lost their lives. The real number is higher and the names of many were never published; for Shahrekord, too, we have included only names that a source has reported. The sources of this page are HRANA with 14 and 4 cases, the Iran Human Rights Society with 10 cases, Iran International with 6 cases, iranhrs.org and Iran International with 3 cases each, and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center, Hengaw and Persian Wikipedia with one case each. The name of one of those from Shahrekord who lost their lives can also be seen in the list of the Office of the Presidency dated 12 Bahman 1404. Some entries have only one source.
If you knew one of these 22 people, send us your memory or correction.
