This page keeps the memory of 33 people who were executed in Taybad. No other fate is recorded in the list for Taybad: all of these 33 people were hanged. The first date on this page is 24 Shahrivar 1390 and the last 23 Bahman 1404. Behind each of these names is a family that often did not even know of the day the sentence was carried out.
Twenty-one names in one year
The first years of this list have few names: one name in 1390, one name in 1391, one name in 1393, 2 names in 1395, 2 names in 1399, 3 names in 1400, and one name in each of the years 1401 and 1402. But in the year 1404, suddenly, 21 names were recorded; that is, more than half of this entire page in a single year. The day 9 Bahman 1404, with 3 executions, has the highest number. 26 Shahrivar 1404 and 18 Aban 1404 have 2 names each, and earlier, too, 29 Shahrivar 1400 appears with 2 names.
The recorded ages range from 23 to 46 years, and the median is 35 years. Those executed in Taybad were mostly middle-aged men, but the sources have written of 2 people that they were women. No one under 18 is recorded on this list.
Hadi Oskouei
Hadi Oskouei was 31 years old. The source writes: “He was hanged in Taybad Prison on 4 Mehr 1395.” He was not the only member of his family to have this fate: “His brother was also executed in Taybad Prison on similar charges.” One of the sources reports the following about the way sentences are carried out in this prison: “In Taybad Prison they take the condemned prisoner to execution without informing them. They did not inform his family either and did not allow a last visit.”
These few sentences are a picture of what many of the families on this page probably experienced: no farewell, no last visit, and news that arrives after it is all over. One family in this city lost two sons and saw neither of them for the last time.
Nafiseh Pakmehr
Nafiseh Pakmehr is one of the two women who appear in the list for Taybad. The source writes about her only that she was “married” and that she “was sentenced to death and was hanged in Taybad Prison on Sunday, 24 Esfand 1399.” Her age is not recorded in the source. A few days before the end of the year, a married woman was gone from her home forever. If anyone knew her, if anyone knows something about her life, her work or her family, this page is a place that can carry her name beyond one short line.
About the sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 33 names are not all of those who were executed in Taybad. The real number is higher; many executions in this prison, as the sources themselves have said, were carried out without notice and in silence, and the names of many were never published. We record only a name for which we have found a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 15 cases, HRANA with 13 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 10 cases and Haalvsh with one case. Behind every name there is at least one source, but some entries rest on only one report and may contain errors in age or date. Of the 33 people, we know more than a name and a date for only 2.
If you knew one of those executed in Taybad, if you were a fellow prisoner or know their family, we ask you to send us a memory or a correction so that each of these 33 names may regain its own life.
