This page keeps the memory of 25 people whose names are linked with Yazdanshahr, in the province of Isfahan. 24 of them were killed in protests and one person lost their life in custody. The first date on this page is 26 Aban 1398 and the last 19 Dey 1404. In this list Yazdanshahr is the city of two days: 26 Aban 1398 with 6 killed and 19 Dey 1404 with 10 killed.
A page of young people
What stands out most in the list for Yazdanshahr is the age of those killed. Those whose age we know were between 16 and 46 years old, but the median age is only 20 years. That is, at least half of those whose age is recorded had not yet reached the age of twenty-one. 4 of these 25 people were under 18. The sources have not written of any of them that they were a woman.
Three years, three moments
9 names belong to the year 1398, and of these, 6 people were killed on 26 Aban 1398. One name goes back to the year 1401: someone who lost their life on 16 Bahman 1401. And 15 names to the year 1404; 10 of them were killed on a single day, 19 Dey 1404, and for the rest the sources have not written the day. In the sources, the name of Motahari Boulevard in Yazdanshahr and of this city's Fatemeh al-Zahra Hospital appear alongside those killed in Dey 1404. Two uprisings, six years apart, have gathered more than half of the names on this page into two days; and the median age on this page shows that most of those who gave their lives were young people at the beginning of their path.
Soheil Zilabi Rostamabadi
Soheil Zilabi Rostamabadi, 25 years old, “worked as an apprentice in car paint matching.” The source writes: “His mother had raised Soheil and his two sisters with hardship.” He “had come back from military service less than a year earlier” and “went to work from 5 in the morning and worked until 5 in the afternoon.” Those who knew him say: “Soheil was an extraordinarily kind and lovable boy.”
On 19 Dey 1404, according to the source, “security agents shot him in the head on Motahari Boulevard in Yazdanshahr.” He reached the Fatemeh al-Zahra Hospital in Yazdanshahr and died there. What happened after that is written in the source as follows: “The security forces handed over only Soheil's bloody clothes to his family.” His family went to the Bagh-e Rezvan cemetery three days in a row, and finally, five days later, received Soheil's body. A mother who had raised her children with hardship for years at first got back only her son's bloody clothes.
Names without a description
For the other twenty-four people on this page, our sources have recorded nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know who the six people were who were killed in Yazdanshahr in Aban 1398; we do not know which school the four adolescents on this page attended. We do not know what happened to the person who lost their life in custody. We have a description of life for only one of the 25 people.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 25 names are not all of those killed in Yazdanshahr. The real number is higher, and the names of many, especially from Aban 1398, have not yet been published; Yazdanshahr appears in our list only with names that have a report behind them. The sources of this page are HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 14 cases, Persian Wikipedia and Iran International with 9 each, iranhrs.org with 7, Amnesty International and IranWire with 6 each, the Iran Human Rights Society with 3, and the Begoonah news network, Radio Farda and Radio Zamaneh with 2 cases each. Some entries have only one source.
If you knew one of these 25 people, we ask you to send us your memory or correction.
