Victims of flight PS752 (8 January 2020)

The passenger plane shot down by IRGC missiles

176 names175 Killed by state forces outside protests1 Killed during protests3 under 180 with a life story

This page keeps the memory of the Javid-Nam (“everlasting names”), those who lost their lives, on Flight 752; the passenger plane that the IRGC shot down with a missile on 18 Dey 1398. This list contains 176 names. 175 of them lost their lives on that same day, 18 Dey 1398. These 175 people are recorded in our list with the fate “killed by government forces outside of protests”: they were not in the street, not in prison, not accused of anything; they were passengers who had boarded a plane.

One more name, six years later

One name on this page goes back to another day. This name is recorded with the date 18 Dey 1404, exactly six years after the downing of the plane, and its fate in our list is “killed in protests.” Our sources have linked this person to this event, but how this link came about and further details of their life do not appear in the data for this page. We hope that someone who knew them will fill this gap.

What the list shows

The victims on this page range from a 9-year-old child to a 56-year-old adult, and their median age is 34 years. 3 people were under 18 years of age; children, the youngest of whom was no more than 9 years old. All of these 176 names are recorded in our data with the city of Tehran and the province of Tehran.

In our data none of these 176 people is recorded with a source that explicitly stated that they were a woman. This does not mean that there were no women among the passengers; it only shows that the source from which we took these names did not record gender separately. We prefer not to write what our source has not said, even if it seems obvious.

Why this classification

In our list one fate is recorded for each name. For the passengers of Flight 752 we have chosen the fate “killed by government forces outside of protests,” because the plane, in the words of this page, was shot down with a missile by the IRGC. These passengers neither took part in any protest nor had any sentence been issued against them; nevertheless they lost their lives at the hands of a government force. Half of them were older than 34 and half younger; the youngest passenger in this list was 9 years old and the oldest 56. 175 of them lost their lives in one moment and on one day, and for this reason this page is the remembrance of one day and one flight.

Sources

All 176 names on this page come from Persian Wikipedia. 2 names also appear in the reports of HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran, and Iran International, Hengaw and iranhrs.org have each reported 1 name. Therefore most of the names on this page rest on only one source. To date no description of life has been recorded in our data for any of the victims of Flight 752: no occupation, no family, no words from relatives. This is the greatest gap on this page.

This list is not complete

The list of the victims of Flight 752 on this site is not complete, and it still says nothing about them beyond name and age. We record only a name for which we have found a source, and we try to find more sources for each name. Each of these 176 people had a life: studies they were pursuing, work they did, people who were waiting for them. If you knew one of the passengers of Flight 752, or know something about the person who appears on this page with the date 18 Dey 1404, share your memory, a photo or a correction with us, so that this page changes from a list of names into a remembrance of human beings.
