This page keeps the memory of 103 people who gave their lives in Aban 1403 or whose fate was decided in this month; from 2 Aban 1403 to 30 Aban 1403. In this list Aban 1403 is a month of gallows: 90 people were executed in this month. 6 people were killed by government forces outside the protests, 5 people were sentenced to death, the sentence of one person was upheld and one person is at risk of execution.
Days of execution
In this month, almost every few days several people were executed together. The days 16 Aban 1403 and 23 Aban 1403 have 9 names each; 8 Aban 1403 and 15 Aban 1403 have 6 names each; and 2 Aban 1403, the first day of this list, has 5 names. That is, on just two consecutive days, 15 and 16 Aban, fifteen people were executed; every day on which several names are recorded is a morning on which several families heard at the same time the news of the death of their loved one.
The executions were carried out in many cities. Karaj with 9 names and Urmia with 5 names have the highest numbers; after them come Shiraz and Isfahan with 3 each, and Zanjan, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, Rasht and Tabriz with 2 names each. The ages range from 14 to 47 years, and the median is 33 years. 2 people were under 18, and the sources have written of 18 people that they were women.
Fathers with many children
About those executed in Aban 1403, the sources have written above all about children. Esmail Shahbakhsh, 47 years old, and Rahimdad Barahouei Zirkari were both executed on 6 Aban 1403, and of both it is written: “married and with 12 children.” Khodarahim Popalzai, who was executed on 28 Aban 1403, “married, had seven children.” Zakaria Alizehi, 27 years old, executed on 22 Aban, had three children, and Mohsen Nejadi Moghaddam, 30 years old, executed on 15 Aban, two children.
Salman Aghaei, 33 years old, “father of one child,” was the first person executed this month, on 2 Aban 1403 in Shiraz; one of the five people who were executed on that day. Rahim Faghiri, 34 years old, “father of three children,” was executed on 27 Aban in Birjand, and Majid Talebian, 43 years old, “father of a young child,” on 30 Aban, the last day of the month, in Tabriz. If we put just these few sentences side by side, dozens of children lost their fathers in one month. The charge attributed to each of these men is the account of the authorities, not a verdict of guilt.
Fuel porters and those killed outside protests
In this same month, several young Baluch men were killed outside any protest. Amer Natouzehi, about 23 years old, son of Amanollah, and Alimorad Sandakzehi, about 42 years old, son of Khodabakhsh, were both married and had children. Alireza Balouchi, 26 years old, son of Pirbakhsh, from Iranshahr and resident in Bampur, according to the source was “a fuel porter” and he too was “married and with children.” These three men were identified by Haalvsh.
Sources and incompleteness
103 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Aban 1403; the real number is higher, and many executions were reported without names. We record only names that have a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 138 cases, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network with 21, Haalvsh with 21, HRANA with 5, and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (English-language) and the Yarmahmoodi Think Tank with 2 cases each. For most of those executed this month, the sources have written nothing but a name, a date and the number of children. If you knew one of these 103 people, send us your memory or correction.
