Khordad 1404

This page keeps the memory of 127 people who gave their lives in Khordad 1404 or whose fate was decided in this month; from 3 Khordad 1404 to 28 Khordad 1404. 115 of them were executed in this month. Alongside these executions, 5 people lost their lives in this month at the hands of government forces outside any protest and one person died in custody; for none of these six people have our sources recorded a description. 3 people were sentenced to death and 3 others are at risk of execution.

Karaj and the days with many names

What stands out in Khordad 1404 is the share of Karaj: 32 of these 127 people, that is, one in every four, lost their lives in Karaj, and among the provinces Alborz is in the lead with these same 32 names. After it come Shiraz with 11 names, Qom with 7, Isfahan with 6, Zanjan, Kerman and Tabriz with 4 each, and Zahedan, Qazvin, Arak and Tehran with 3 names each.

The day 7 Khordad 1404, with 19 names, is the day with the most names this month. After it come 12 Khordad 1404 with 13 names, 6 Khordad and 19 Khordad 1404 with 10 names each and 4 Khordad 1404 with 9 names. That is, in the first week of this month, from 4 to 7 Khordad, at least thirty-eight people were executed.

The ages range from 15 to 46 years, and the median is 30 years; those executed this month were mostly young men. One person under 18 is recorded, and the sources have written of 5 people that they were women.

Fathers

For 8 of those executed in Khordad 1404 details appear in the sources, and all of these details are about children. On 5 Khordad 1404 three men were executed whose children the sources have written about: Hamid Shirzaei, 39 years old, who according to the source “was married and the father of 10 children”; Morad Dalaei Milan from Maku, “father of seven children”; and Zabihollah Sarani, 29 years old, in Zahedan, “with two children.” On a single day alone, at least nineteen children lost their fathers.

Ehsan Hosseinzehi, 30 years old, from Khash, “married and with one child,” was executed on 7 Khordad 1404, the day with the most names this month. Habib Almasi, 35 years old, in Isfahan, “married and father of two children,” was executed on 12 Khordad, and Rahim Karimi, 32 years old, married and with children, on 18 Khordad. Sajjad Moradi Motlagh and a man whom the source knows only by the name Soltanabadi were both executed on 19 Khordad 1404 in Karaj; of both it is written: “father of one child.”

These short sentences are all that the sources have kept of the lives of these men. We do not know what work they did, how old their children are and who is now the breadwinner of those homes. The charge attributed to each of them is the account of the authorities, and this page does not regard it as a verdict of their guilt.

Sources and incompleteness

These 127 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Khordad 1404; the real number is higher, and from many executions no name has come out. We record only names that have a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 114 cases, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network with 23, Haalvsh with 19 and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (English-language) with 2 cases. Most entries rest on one source and may contain errors in the spelling of a name or in an age. If you knew one of those executed in Khordad 1404, we ask you to send us your memory or correction.
