Mehr 1403

This page keeps the memory of 141 people who gave their lives in Mehr 1403 or whose fate was decided in this month; from 2 Mehr 1403 to 30 Mehr 1403. 120 of them were executed in this month. 8 people were killed by government forces outside the protests, 2 people lost their lives in custody and one person was killed in protests. 6 people were sentenced to death and 4 people are at risk of execution.

Karaj and the days with many names

What stands out in Mehr 1403 is the share of Karaj: 18 of these 141 people lost their lives in Karaj, and no other city has more than 3 names. Zahedan, Shiraz and Urmia have 3 names each, and Tabriz, Ilam, Mashhad and Jiroft 2 names each. Among the provinces, Alborz is in the lead with those same 18 names, followed by Sistan and Baluchestan with 5 names.

The day 18 Mehr 1403, with 13 names, is the day with the most names this month. After it come 11 Mehr 1403 with 12 names, 10 Mehr 1403 with 9 names, 29 Mehr 1403 with 8 names and 2 Mehr 1403, the first day of this list, with 7 names. That is, on two consecutive days, 10 and 11 Mehr, twenty-one people were executed.

The age range on this page is very wide: from 2 to 65 years, with a median of 38 years. One person under 18 is recorded; a child of whom our sources have said nothing but their age. The sources have written of 25 people that they were women.

Fathers with many children

For 9 of the Javid-Nam (“everlasting names”), those who lost their lives, in Mehr 1403 details appear in the sources, and most of these details are about children. On 5 Mehr 1403 two 41-year-old men were executed who each had five children: Amanollah Gomshadzehi in Zahedan, “married and with five young children,” and Amanollah Nahtani, “married and with five children.” Ten children lost their fathers on one day.

Dastgir Sasouli, 46 years old, “married, with 3 children,” was executed on 10 Mehr 1403. Habibollah Mohammadzehi, 47 years old, “married, with six children,” was hanged on 15 Mehr, and Hamid Chatrsimabeh, 40 years old, “married, with 3 children,” on 30 Mehr, the last day of the month. Molud Khaledian, “father of one child,” was executed on 11 Mehr 1403 in Karaj; one of the twelve people who lost their lives on that day. Ebrahim Roudini, 25 years old, “married and with one child,” is recorded in our list as at risk of execution.

Whatever charge appears in the cases of these fathers is what the court has said, not proof of guilt; and their children, whatever the charge was, lost their fathers without any guilt of their own.

Iraj Sarani Moakhar

Iraj Sarani Moakhar, 34 years old, son of Amir, from Sarbisheh, was “married and with two children.” He was killed by government forces in Mehr 1403 outside any protest; one of the 8 people who had such a fate this month. Of the seven others, our sources have recorded nothing but a name and a date.

Sources and incompleteness

These 141 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Mehr 1403; the real number is higher, and many executions remained without names. We record only names that have a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 188 cases, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network with 36, Haalvsh with 31, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (English-language) with 5 and the Yarmahmoodi Think Tank with one case. Most entries have only one source. If you knew one of these 141 people, send us your memory or correction.
