This page keeps the memory of 27 people of Khash, a city in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan. The list begins on 9 Ordibehesht 1388 and reaches 16 Khordad 1405. But in this list Khash is known above all by one day: 13 Aban 1401, the day on which 16 people of this city were killed. The sources remember that day as the “Bloody Friday” of Khash.
What the list for Khash shows
Of these 27 people, 18 were killed in protests, 5 were executed, 3 were killed by government forces outside the protests and one person is at risk of execution. 18 names belong to the year 1401. The rest are scattered: 2 names in 1388, one name in 1393, one name in 1400, one name in 1402, 2 names in 1404 and 2 names in 1405.
The ages range from 14 to 38 years, and the median is only 25 years. 4 of these 27 people were under 18; in a list this short, that is a large number of children. The sources have written of one person that she was a woman.
The children of Khash
Mobin Mirkazehi, 14 years old, was a school student. The source writes that his family “were forced to move to the city of Khash because of difficult living conditions and so that their child could continue his education,” and “raised Mobin with hardship.” On 13 Aban 1401, after Friday prayers and on the way back from the mosque of Khash, he was killed by a military bullet. According to the source, his family was informed like this: “Come, your child is ill.” Later, agents put pressure on them to drop their complaint by accepting diyeh (blood money).
Yaser Bahadorzehi, 17 years old, “had a severe physical and mental disability.” The source writes that he “was probably hit by a bullet without even being present at the protest gathering in front of the governor's office.” The next morning his body was found hundreds of metres away, in the dirt fields around the governor's office of Khash. On 1 Ordibehesht 1403 the military prosecutor's office issued a decision not to prosecute for all the forces present that day. Saad Omarzehi, 16 years old, son of Abdolghader, was also killed by government forces outside the protests on 16 Khordad 1405.
Ali Kordkolahouri and Kambiz Gangouzehi Rigi
Ali Kordkolahouri, 25 years old, was a primary school teacher in the village of Bourta and at the same time studying for a master's degree. The source writes: “He was both the teacher of their village and a master builder,” and “many of the houses and gardens of the village of Bourta in Mirjaveh are a legacy of his labour.” He was hit by a bullet in the head in front of the governor's office building in Khash and lost his life in hospital. On his gravestone they have written: “Bi-ayyi dhanbin qutilat [for which sin were you killed].”
Kambiz Gangouzehi Rigi, 25 years old, “worked as a taxi driver” and was killed by a military bullet on the same day, 13 Aban 1401. Abdolvahed Bameri, 32 years old, son of Abdolrahim and “married with children,” was killed on 8 Khordad 1405, and Ehsan Hosseinzehi, 30 years old, “married with one child,” was executed on 7 Khordad 1404.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 27 names are not all of those from Khash who lost their lives. The real number is higher and the names of many were never published; we record only a name for which we have a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 28 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 15 cases, Persian Wikipedia with 14 cases, English Wikipedia with 9 cases, Haalvsh with 6 and 2 cases, and Tasnim with one case. We have a description of life for 7 people, and some entries have only one source. If you knew one of these people of Khash, send us your memory or correction.
