This page keeps the memory of 42 people whose names are linked with Lahijan, in the province of Gilan. 29 of them were killed in protests and 11 were executed. One person lost their life in suspicious circumstances and one person faces a charge that carries the death penalty. The first date on this page is 30 Shahrivar 1401 and the last 6 Esfand 1404. All the names whose year is known belong to two years: 5 names to 1401 and 36 names to 1404.
18 Dey 1404 in Lahijan
The day 18 Dey 1404, with 16 killed, is the bitterest day of Lahijan on this list; more than a third of all the names on this page. In the autumn of 1401, too, this city saw grief several times: one person on 30 Shahrivar 1401, one person on 12 Aban 1401, 2 people on 25 Aban 1401 and one person on 28 Dey 1401. The ages range from 16 to 60 years, and the median is 30 years. One person was under 18, and the sources have written of 3 people that they were women.
Parvaneh Khojandirad
One of these three women is Parvaneh Khojandirad. She was 50 years old, and the source writes: “Parvaneh was the manager of a beauty salon in ‘Lahijan’.” On 18 Dey 1404, according to the source, “she had taken part in the protest gathering in Lahijan together with her two young daughters, when, before the eyes of her children, she was shot by government agents and lost her life.” The bullet struck her head. Her daughters sang songs in their farewell to her, and her body was buried in the “Agha Seyed Morteza” cemetery of Lahijan.
Emad Shoush and Arya Alidoust
Emad Shoush was a barista. The source writes that his brother, Ali Shoush, “had been killed by baton blows in Isfahan during the protests of the fortieth day of Mahsa Amini in the year 1401.” Emad too had been arrested in that same year and was one of the active members of the justice-seeking families. On 18 Dey 1404 he was killed by a direct bullet in Lahijan; a family that lost two sons in two uprisings.
Arya Alidoust Gharibabadi, 26 years old, was also killed in Lahijan. His mother, Mozhgan Tahvildari, published a video of him feeding street dogs and wrote: “Goodbye, my good moon.” And also: “I will never forget our tears before our flight, my dear heart of your mother.”
Erfan Zamani
Erfan Zamani, 20 years old, unmarried and a high school graduate, “had been a hard worker since adolescence and had tried various jobs, from cabinet-making to construction.” He was a Persepolis supporter and had gone to Siahkal at the age of three after his father and mother separated. On 12 Aban 1401 he was killed by pellets from close range in front of the Abdolrazzagh high school in the Sharbafan neighbourhood. A witness has said: “It is not far from this place to the ‘Shafa’ hospital, and Erfan's life could have been saved.” At his third-day ceremony in Siahkal, too, those present were shot at.
Sobhan Esmaildoust
Sobhan Esmaildoust, a dentist and “father of two young children,” faces a charge that carries the death penalty. After days in custody he said in a short call with his family: “They are killing me alive.” His mother too was later arrested and taken to Lakan Prison in Rasht. This is a charge the authorities have attributed to him, not a verdict of guilt.
