This page keeps the memory of 34 people of Nowshahr, in the province of Mazandaran. 20 of them were executed, 12 were killed in protests and 2 lost their lives in custody. The first date on this page is 11 Khordad 1395 and the last 3 Esfand 1404.
Years and days
Two years have the most names: the year 1404 with 15 names and the year 1401 with 12 names. The autumn of 1401 was heavy for Nowshahr: on 30 Shahrivar 1401, 6 people were killed, and on 2 Mehr 1401, 2 more. The other years have few names: 2 names in 1395, one name in each of the years 1396, 1398, 1399 and 1402. The day 11 Khordad 1395, with which the list begins, has two executions.
The ages range from 19 to 43 years, and the median is only 23 years. The sources have written of 2 people that they were women. No one was under 18 at the time of death, but one of those executed had been arrested at the age of 17.
30 Shahrivar 1401: Hananeh and Hossein
Hananeh Kiakojouri, 23 years old, did hairdressing and keratin hair treatments at home and had built an income for herself. “She had become engaged about three months earlier.” On 30 Shahrivar 1401 she had gone to the dentist, and on the way back home she was killed by a bullet to her side. One of those close to her has said: “When she had finished at the doctor's I spoke with her; she said, I'm at the surgery, I'll go home now and call. Not half an hour had passed when they said she had been hit by a bullet by chance in front of the surgery...”
Hossein Alikia, 23 years old, a relative of Hananeh, was hit by a bullet on the same day in front of the police station on 15 Khordad Street and lost his life. According to the source, “both of those who lost their lives were buried side by side in the ‘Al-Javad’ cemetery between Nowshahr and Chalus.”
Mahboubeh Mofidi
Mahboubeh Mofidi, 21 years old, according to the source, “was married to her husband when she was only 13 years old and was arrested at the age of 17.” She was called “the 17-year-old young bride.” The source writes that she “because of ignorance of the law and in order to prevent the execution of her brother-in-law, falsely confessed to having had a hand in the plan to kill her husband.” One of those close to her believes that she was “a victim of fratricide.” She was executed in Nowshahr Prison. The charge the court attributed to Mahboubeh was accompanied by a confession that she herself called false; this page does not regard it as a verdict of her guilt.
11 Khordad 1395
Ehsan Baei Lashaki, 27 years old, “was the only son of the family and left school during middle school.” The source writes that he “was a kind person and, like many adolescents, was more interested in football than in lessons, but the problems of the family and of society did not give him the chance to develop his talent.” His father was a disabled war veteran. In prison he had overcome his addiction. Nasrollah Farrokhnia, son of Aliakbar, whose case's complainant, according to the source, had withdrawn the complaint a year later, was executed on that same morning, 11 Khordad 1395, in Nowshahr Central Prison. His body was buried in Eshkardasht in Chalus.
