This page keeps the memory of 27 people who gave their lives in the city of Qods, in the province of Tehran. 25 of them were killed in protests, one person was killed by government forces outside the protests and one person lost their life in custody. The first date on this page is 24 Aban 1398 and the last 19 Dey 1404. In this list Qods is a city that saw grief in two uprisings, six years apart.

Aban 1398 and Dey 1404

8 names belong to the year 1398. The days of that Aban appear on the list one after another: one person on 24 Aban 1398, 3 people on 25 Aban 1398 and 4 people on 26 Aban 1398. The year 1404, with 18 names, has the largest share: 7 people were killed on 18 Dey 1404 and 4 people on 19 Dey 1404, and for the rest of the names of that year the sources have not written the day. One name also belongs to the year 1401.

The ages range from 14 to 54 years, and the median is 26 years. 5 of these 27 people were under 18; the youngest of them a 14-year-old adolescent. In the list for Qods, the sources have not written of anyone that she was a woman.

Mohammad Rostami

Mohammad Rostami, 42 years old, was “an employee of the transport department of Mahan Air” and “the father of two children aged 14 and five.” The source writes that he was “born in 1362,” and those close to him considered him an athlete and a football enthusiast who had won prizes in local competitions.

In Dey 1404, when he was returning home from work, in front of the governor's office of Qaleh Hasan Khan he came upon Mehrdad Yaghoubi, who had been shot, and went to help him. According to the source, “government forces shot Mohammad Rostami in the heart at that same spot.” His body “remained in the street from about 9:15 in the evening until 12:30 at night, until finally his wife found him.” A man who stopped to help a wounded person lay in the street for hours until his wife found him.

Sadegh Ghorbani

Sadegh Ghorbani, 28 years old, was wounded by a military bullet on 18 Dey 1404 in the city of Qods and, according to the source, “lost his life on 20 Dey.” His wife, Atefeh Saei, wrote after his death: “Our first wedding anniversary; me without you, alone, frightened and in shock.” The source adds that she was worried that even after the burial they would take Sadegh's body from the family. A couple who had not yet completed one year of married life spent their first wedding anniversary in mourning.

What we still do not know

For most of the names from Qods, including the five adolescents on this list and the eight people killed in Aban 1398, our sources have no description of life. We do not know who lost their life in custody and what happened to them. Details have been recorded for only 4 of the 27 people. Anyone who knew these people can give this page faces.

Sources and the incompleteness of the list

These 27 names are not all of those from the city of Qods who lost their lives. The real number is higher, and the names of many, especially from Aban 1398, have not yet been published; Qods appears in our list only with names that have at least one source. The sources of this page are HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 15 cases, Iran International with 14, Amnesty International with 8, iranhrs.org with 7, Iran International with 6, the Iran Human Rights Society, iranintl.com and iranhumanrights.org with 3 each, and Persian Wikipedia and the human rights organisation Hana with 2 cases each. Some entries rest on only one report.

If you knew one of these 27 people, we ask you to send us your memory or correction.
