This page keeps the memory of 26 people of Sirjan, in the province of Kerman. 18 of them were executed and 8 were killed in protests. The first date on this page is 10 Tir 1388 and the last 5 Esfand 1404. Between these two dates, two 21-year-old young men from this city gave their lives, about whom you will read below; one at the beginning of this list and the other at its end.
Years and days
The year 1404, with 18 names, is more than two thirds of this page. The years 1388 and 1398, with 3 names each, come after it, and the years 1395 and 1397 have one name each. The day 19 Dey 1404, with 3 killed, is the day with the most names on this page. The day 2 Dey 1388 has two names, and the days 10 Tir 1388, 29 Mordad 1395 and 26 Mehr 1397 one name each.
The ages range from 20 to 42 years, but the median is only 23 years. That is, most of those from Sirjan who lost their lives were young people in their early twenties. One person on this list was under 18. No woman is recorded on this page whose being a woman a source has stated explicitly.
Mohammad Naderipour
Mohammad Naderipour, 21 years old, was “a civil engineering student at the Sirjan Faculty of Engineering, affiliated with Bahonar University of Kerman.” The source writes that he “was head of the student branch of Mirhossein Mousavi's election campaign headquarters in Sirjan county” and, as confirmed by his friends and family, “was a healthy and honest young man and a student of good reputation and commitment.” On 10 Tir 1388, after coming out of an examination session, he was abducted in his own car. According to the source, “Mr Naderipour's body was found 48 hours after the abduction, inside his private car in a corner of the city of Sirjan.”
What happened after that also appears in the source: the criminal investigation department asked the family to bury him immediately, and “before handing Mr Naderipour's body over to the family, the police agents had burned the clothes and the blanket over the body.” He is the first name on this page.
Alireza Valipour
Alireza Valipour was also 21 years old. The source writes: “Alireza was an Iranian karate champion and a medal winner in the ‘Kyokushin’ style.” On 19 Dey 1404 he was killed in the protests in Sirjan by a bullet to the chest. His family identified his body on 21 Dey at the forensic medicine office, but only one day later, and after pledging not to hold a mourning ceremony, were they allowed to bury him.
Two 21-year-old young men, one a civil engineering student and the other a karate champion, were killed years apart in the same city, and the families of both were deprived of the freedom to mourn.
Those executed in Sirjan
18 people on this page were executed, but our sources have recorded no details of life for any of them. We do not know what work they did, who their families were or what they went through in prison. We have a description of life for only 2 of the 26 people. The charge attributed to those executed is what the authorities or the sources have stated, not a verdict of their guilt.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 26 names are not all of those from Sirjan who lost their lives. The real number is higher, and many executions and killings were never reported with a name; Sirjan appears in our list only with names that have a report behind them. The sources of this page are HRANA with 13 and 4 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 7 cases, Iran International with 4 cases, the Iran Human Rights Society with 3 cases, and Amnesty International, iranhumanrights.org, IranWire, Persian Wikipedia and Radio Zamaneh with one case each. Some entries have only one source. If you knew one of these people of Sirjan, send us your memory or correction.
