This page keeps the memory of 64 people whose names are linked with Yasuj, the capital of the province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad. 57 of them were executed, 5 were killed in protests, one person died in custody and one person is at risk of execution. The first date on this page is 3 Bahman 1389 and the last 11 Mordad 1405. The list for Yasuj is above all a list of gallows; and most of those gallows were set up in a single year.
Years and days
The year 1404, with 35 names, makes up more than half of this page. In that year, executions on the days 1 Ordibehesht and 17 Ordibehesht 1404 took two people each time, and on 18 Bahman 1404 three people. Before that, two heavy days can be seen on this list: 7 Dey 1391 with 5 executions and 23 Dey 1397 with 3 executions. The year 1391 appears with 6 names, the year 1405 so far with 5 names, the years 1400 and 1401 with 4 names each, and the years 1397 and 1402 with 3 names each. The years 1389, 1393 and 1403 have one name each.
The ages range from 13 to 61 years, and the median is 31 years. One person was under 18; the youngest person on this page was 13 years old. The sources have written of 8 people that they were women; a notable share among those executed in one city.
Reza Hosseinzadeh
Reza Hosseinzadeh, 20 years old, according to the source “was a Lor and lived in ‘Yasuj’.” On 19 Dey 1404 bullets struck his legs; “he lost so much blood that his young life could not hold on.” His body was buried in the Sepidar cemetery near Yasuj. The source writes that a page called “Freedom-loving youth of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad” has published videos of him and of his burial ceremony. A young man who had a wound in his leg and could have survived with timely care died of bleeding in the street of his city. He is one of the 5 people on this page who were killed in protests; for the four others, our sources have written nothing but a name.
Those executed
About those executed in Yasuj, our sources have only a few words, and these few words are about children. Heydar Hassani Maram, “married and father of a young child,” was executed on 13 Azar 1401. Fereydoun Lotfi, 51 years old, who was executed on 5 Aban 1404, according to the source was the father of four children. One young child and four other children lost their fathers in these two lines alone.
For the rest of those executed on this page, including the five people who were hanged together on 7 Dey 1391, the three people who lost their lives on 18 Bahman 1404 and the women whom the sources have named, not even these few words are available. We do not know what work they did, in which neighbourhood they lived and who waited for them. We do not know in which prison the person who is still at risk of execution is today. Whatever charge appears in the cases of these people is the account of the authorities, and this page does not regard it as a verdict of their guilt.
Sources and incompleteness
These 64 names are not all of those from Yasuj who lost their lives. The real number is higher, and many executions remained without names; Yasuj appears in our list only with names that a source has recorded. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 32 cases, HRANA with 19 and 2 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 16, Iran Human Rights with 5, Iran International with 3, and iranhrs.org, IranWire, Persian Wikipedia and parsi.euronews.com with one case each. We have details of life for only 4 people, and some entries rest on one report.
If you knew one of these 64 people, if you were a fellow prisoner, neighbour or relative of one of those executed in Yasuj, we ask you to send us your memory or correction.
