This page keeps the memory of 94 people whose names are linked with Yazd. Most of them, 84 people, were executed in this city's prison. 8 people were killed in protests, one person lost their life in custody and one person was killed by government forces outside the protests. The first date on this page is 3 Shahrivar 1388 and the last 18 Shahrivar 1405.
Years and days
The year 1404, with 35 names, is the heaviest year of this page, and the years 1403 and 1405, with 10 names each, come after it. The year 1400 has seven names and the years 1399 and 1401 five names each. The day 30 Tir 1401, with 4 executions, is the day with the most names on this page; the days 3 Esfand 1391, 8 Azar 1403, 25 Azar 1403 and 29 Ordibehesht 1404 have 3 names each. The ages range from 19 to 63 years, and the median is 32 years. The sources have written of 16 people that they were women. No one was under 18 at the time of death, but several had been arrested as adolescents.
Farhang Amiri
Farhang Amiri, 63 years old, the oldest person on this page, “worked as a driver and also as a farmer” and “was married and had four children.” The source writes that he was born into a Baha'i family and “was known among his neighbours for his kindness, gentleness, wisdom and humility.” On 5 Mehr 1395 he was killed in front of his house in Yazd by several stab wounds to the chest and died before reaching the hospital. His body was buried in the Golestan-e Javid cemetery, and according to the source, “Mr Amiri's gravestone was attacked and destroyed many times.”
Adolescents who grew up to be executed
Khaled Kordi, 24 years old, a worker who helped his father move building materials, according to the source “at the age of 17, in exchange for a free trip to Isfahan, accepted an unknown person's offer to carry his bag, without knowing that it contained crystal.” His age at the time of arrest was “17 years and 3 months.” He was executed on 5 Bahman 1394 in Yazd Central Prison; his father was able to see him only for a few short minutes inside a car. Omar Shahbakhsh, 24 years old, son of Abdolhamid, was executed in Khordad 1405; the source writes that he “was under eighteen years old at the time of his arrest, and for this reason the death sentence against him had not been carried out during these six years.”
Fathers
About most of the others executed, the sources have spoken only of their children. Reza Kharkouhi, 43 years old, Mohammadali Kharkouhi, 36 years old, and Nematollah Toutazehi, 33 years old, were all three executed on 25 Azar 1403; the sources have mentioned their children, although they have not written the same number. Davoud Mohammadi Takhtshah, 33 years old, and Osman Dehmardeh, 26 years old, both “with two children,” were executed on 8 Azar 1403. Abdolnaser Toutazehi, 38 years old, “with eight children,” was hanged on 25 Azar 1404, and Mostafa Alipour, 35 years old, “father of a young child,” on 24 Khordad 1403. The charges are the account of the authorities, not a verdict of guilt.
Sources and incompleteness
These 94 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Yazd; the real number is higher, and for Yazd, too, we have recorded only names that have a source. The main sources are the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 35 cases, the Iran Human Rights Society with 30, HRANA with 16 and 4, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network and Haalvsh with 12 each, iranhrs.org and Iran Human Rights with 9 each, Iran International with 7 and Persian Wikipedia with 3 cases.
