This page keeps the memory of Arab citizens who were executed, and the names of those who are still at risk of the execution of a death sentence. This list contains 16 names. Its earliest date is 15 Ordibehesht 1390 and its latest 28 Azar 1404. A person appears on this page when their source has explicitly stated their ethnicity as Arab. Many reports do not state ethnicity, so there are undoubtedly other Arab citizens in our overall list who are not seen on this page. This page shows only the part that the sources have made clear, and its small number above all reflects the lack of sources that record ethnicity.
Fates and places
Of these 16 people, 12 were executed and 4 are at risk of the execution of a death sentence; the lives of these four people, according to the latest reports, are still in danger. All of those on this page were young: the youngest of them was 16 years old and the oldest 29, and the median age is 23 years. 1 person was under 18 years of age. No woman is recorded in this list; this does not mean that there are no Arab women among the victims, but that we have not found a source that mentions both a person's being a woman and their ethnicity.
This list is almost tied to a single city: 12 people were from Ahvaz, and the province of Khuzestan, with these same 12 names, makes up most of this page. Arak and Ilam have one name each. The years 1390 and 1402, each with 4 names, are the years with the most names on this page, followed by 1404 with 2 names. On 16 Ordibehesht 1402 four people and on 18 Ordibehesht 1390 three people from this list lost their lives on a single day. The days 15 Ordibehesht 1390, 7 Bahman 1392 and 17 Aban 1401 have one name each. Two dates in Ordibehesht 1390, three days apart, hold four names from this page.
Two names
For only 1 person in this list do we have a description of their life, and even that is very short. Hashem Shabani was executed on 7 Bahman 1392. An English-language source introduces him only with this phrase: “high school teacher of Arabic language and literature”; that is, a teacher of Arabic language and literature at a high school.
Saeed Moghaddam, 29 years old, whom the source describes as single, was executed on 17 Aban 1401 in Arak. For the other names on this page we know nothing apart from name, city and date; not their occupation, not their family, not what those close to them have said about them. Each of these sixteen names is a human being who lived in Ahvaz, Arak or Ilam and left people behind.
About this list
The list of Arab citizens is not complete. The real number of Arab victims is higher, and the names of many were never published or their ethnicity did not appear in the reports; we list only a name that has a source. The names on this page come from the Center for Human Rights in Iran, the Iran Human Rights Society and Haalvsh with 8 cases each, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 4 cases and HRANA with 2 cases. Every name has at least one source, but some of these names rest on only one source. Since we have no description of life for fifteen of these sixteen people, every memory is valuable. If you knew one of these Arab citizens, share their full name, a memory or a correction about them with us so that they are remembered.
