Baluch citizens

This page keeps the memory of Baluch citizens who were executed or killed, or who are now at risk of execution. This list contains 458 names; its earliest date is 30 Khordad 1389 and its latest 20 Mehr 1405. A person appears on this page when their source has explicitly stated their ethnicity as Baluch. In many reports ethnicity is not mentioned, so there are other Baluch citizens in our overall list who are not seen here. This page is a picture of what the sources have said, not the complete number of Baluch people who lost their lives.

Fates

Most of the names on this page, 376 people, were executed. 26 people were killed by government forces outside of protests, 13 people lost their lives in detention and 1 person was killed in protests. 40 people are at risk of the execution of a death sentence, 1 person has been sentenced to death and the death sentence of 1 person has been upheld. That means that for a number of those in this list, their voices can still be carried further. There are 148 women in this list whose source stated that they were women, and 5 people were under 18 years of age. The median age is 33 years and the oldest person was 72 years old.

The bitter point of this list is its concentration in recent years. Before the year 1400 only one name, from 1389, appears on this page, and the year 1400 has 9 names; but in 1401 the number reaches 91, in 1402 142, in 1403 109 and in 1404 98 names. The low number in earlier years does not necessarily mean there were few Baluch victims in those years; the sources of those years may have mentioned people's ethnicity less often. Zahedan with 73 names is the most frequent city, followed by Birjand with 30, Bandar Abbas with 21, Isfahan with 15, Shiraz and Kerman with 14 each. Iranshahr, Zabol, Saravan and Bam are also in the list of cities. Sistan and Baluchestan with 98 names is at the top of the provinces. The days 9 Ordibehesht 1402, 4 Aban 1402, 18 Mehr 1403 and 25 Azar 1403, each with 6 names, are the heaviest days.

Some lives

Mohammadreza Shihaki (Sanginzehi), according to the source, “was arrested and sentenced to death at the age of 16” and was executed at the age of 25, at dawn on 10 Mehr 1404, in Iranshahr Prison. Zabihollah Sarani, 29 years old, whom the sources describe as married and the father of young children, was reported to be at risk of the execution of a death sentence in Farvardin 1404.

Vahid Narouei, 31 years old, was executed on 21 Azar 1401 in Shiraz, and Abdollah Soufi (Golmir Rigi) on 23 Aban 1401. Saeed Hassanzehi, 30 years old, and Nour Mohammad Nouri were both executed on 19 Shahrivar 1403; the sources describe them as married and having children. For most of these names the sources have recorded only a few words: age, city, date, and that they had a spouse and children.

On 25 and 26 Azar 1403, several Baluch citizens were executed one after another; among them Elyas Tardast, 22 years old, Alireza Galehbacheh, 37 years old, Mohammad Vazir Roudini, 45 years old, and Yaghoub Barahouei Moghaddam. The sources wrote about several of them that they were married and had children. Saeed Barahouei, 38 years old, was also executed on 9 Mordad 1402, and the source describes him as married and the father of three children.

About this list

The list of Baluch citizens is not complete. The real number is higher and the names of many were never published; we list only a name that has a source. Most names on this page come from Haalvsh, with 484 cases; followed by the Iran Human Rights Society with 283, HRANA with 61 and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 15 cases. Every name has at least one source, but some rest on only one report. For 271 people, details of their life have been recorded. If you knew one of these 458 people, share a memory, the correct name or a correction with us.
