Aban 1404

This page keeps the memory of 263 people who gave their lives in Aban 1404 or whose fate was decided in this month; from 3 Aban 1404 to 29 Aban 1404. In this list Aban 1404 is a month of execution: 251 people were hanged in this one month. 3 people were killed by government forces outside the protests and 2 people lost their lives in custody. 4 people were sentenced to death, the sentences of 2 people were upheld and one person is at risk of execution.

Every day, several names

What makes this month heavy is the continuity of the executions. On 3 Aban 1404, the first day of this list, 16 people were executed. On 18 Aban 1404, 20 people; the day with the most names this month. The next day, 19 Aban 1404, 14 more. And at the end of the month, 27 Aban 1404 with 16 names and 28 Aban 1404 with 18 names. That is, on five days of this month, about a third of all its executions are recorded.

The executions were carried out in many cities, and no city has a much larger share than the rest: Kermanshah has 7 names, Zanjan and Urmia 6 names each, Borujerd, Yasuj, Gorgan and Bojnurd 5 names each, and Dezful, Aligudarz, Semnan, Mashhad and Khorramabad 4 names each. Among the provinces, Lorestan with 13 names, West Azerbaijan with 11, Razavi Khorasan with 11 and Khuzestan with 10 are in the lead.

The ages range from 21 to 60 years, and the median is 34 years. The sources have written of 11 people that they were women. No one under 18 is recorded in this month.

Fathers

About those executed in Aban 1404, the sources have spoken above all of their children. Mohammadreza Badavi Sirou, 47 years old, whom the source introduces as a Kurdish citizen, was “the father of 4 children” and was executed on 18 Aban 1404 in Urmia; according to the source, after his appeal, his request for a retrial and his request for pardon had all been rejected. Abdolkarim Sasouli, 60 years old, the oldest person on this page, who was executed on 19 Aban, “had seven children.”

Saeed Arabian, 30 years old, in Yazd, and Fereydoun Lotfi, 51 years old, in Yasuj, were both executed on 5 Aban 1404, and the sources call both of them fathers of four children. Saeed Mokhtari, 35 years old, and Shahrokh Mostafavi, 40 years old, were both executed on 21 Aban, and both were “father of one child.” Vahid Fazeli, 42 years old, was executed on 20 Aban in Rasht, and Hassan Sadeghi Ghoushchi, 52 years old, “married and father of 2 children,” on 22 Aban. Heshmat Shiravand, 48 years old, father of 2 children, Abdolrahman Habibi, father of 3 children, and Vahid Paknikan, 38 years old, “married and father of one child,” were also executed in this month.

Fayez Aboushe, 43 years old, “married, has 2 children,” is recorded in our list as at risk of execution. The charge attributed to each of these people is the account of the authorities, not a verdict of guilt.

Sources and incompleteness

263 names are not all of those who were executed or killed in Aban 1404; the real number is higher, and many executions remained without names. We record only names that have a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 201 cases, HRANA with 177, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network with 16, Haalvsh with 4 and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 3 cases. We have details of life for only 14 people, and for the rest not even one sentence about their family or work has appeared in the sources. If you knew one of these 263 people, send us your memory or correction.
