This page keeps the memory of 20 people whose names are linked with Qaemshahr, in the province of Mazandaran. 14 of them were killed in protests, 5 were executed and one person was killed by government forces. The first date on this page is 24 Aban 1388 and the last 19 Dey 1404.
Years, days and ages
The names from Qaemshahr fall within a few years: one name in 1388, 2 names in 1392, 2 names in 1393, 5 names in 1401 and 10 names in 1404; that is, half of this page belongs to the year 1404 alone. The day with the most names on this page is 30 Shahrivar 1401, on which 4 people of this city were killed; almost all the names of that year. The day 19 Dey 1404 also has 2 names, and from the earlier years, 24 Aban 1388, 23 Shahrivar 1392 and 6 Esfand 1392 have one name each.
The ages range from 16 to 40 years, and the median is only 24 years. 4 of these 20 people were under 18, and the sources have written of one person that she was a woman.
30 Shahrivar 1401
Mohsen Mohammadi Kouchaksaraei, 37 years old, “was a technician and master building electrician.” The source writes that he “was the second child of a family of five, married, and had two sons aged five and eleven.” He “even worked for free for low-income families or paid for their equipment and medicines,” and was a staunch supporter of Esteghlal and Nassaji Qaemshahr. On 30 Shahrivar 1401 on Kargar Boulevard, in front of Police Station 11, he was shot from behind with a military bullet and lost his life in Valiasr Hospital in Qaemshahr. One of those close to him wrote: “It is true that I lose your body forever, but with your going you taught me to live honourably.”
Rahim Kalij, 27 years old, was killed on the same day. He “had a mobile phone repair shop in the city of Qaemshahr,” held an associate degree in software and “was the only son of the family.” The source calls him “athletic, a lover of nature, brave, daring and charitable” and writes: “He also loved animals, especially dogs.” According to the source, he was killed by a military bullet from close range and multiple blows, but on his death certificate the cause of death was written as “impact of hard or sharp objects.”
Mehras Rezaei and Yasin Sohrabi
Mehras Rezaei, 21 years old, was executed on 6 Esfand 1392. The source writes: “In prison he was a Quran reciter,” and according to readers of the news, he “was an intelligent boy and in prison was loved by the prisoners and the prison staff.” The charge attributed to him is what the authorities stated, not a verdict of guilt.
Yasin Sohrabi, 30 years old, was a rapper and “dreamed of becoming famous in this profession.” He was from Qaemshahr, but according to the source, he “was killed on 18 Dey during the protests near Enghelab Street in Tehran”; a sniper's bullet struck his head. At his burial, people were not allowed to come to his grave.
Names without a description
For most of these 20 people, including the adolescents whose age the sources have reported and the woman on this list, we have no description of life. Details have been recorded for only 4 people. The four other people executed in Qaemshahr are, in our sources, only a name and a date.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 20 names are not all of those from Qaemshahr who lost their lives; the real number is higher and many names were never published. For this city, too, we have recorded only names that have a source. The sources of this page are the Iran Human Rights Society with 10 cases, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 7 cases, HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 6 cases, Persian Wikipedia with 5 cases, Iran International with 4 cases, iranhrs.org with 3 cases, and English Wikipedia and iranintl.com with one case each. Some entries have only one source. If you knew one of these people of Qaemshahr, send us your memory or correction.
