This page keeps the memory of 30 people who gave their lives in Qarchak, in the province of Tehran. 29 of them were killed in protests and one person was executed. The first date on this page is 4 Khordad 1401 and the last 19 Dey 1404. In the sources, the names of two places recur again and again alongside the names of those killed in Qarchak: Kalantari Square and the Centennial building, on whose roof, according to the sources, snipers were stationed.
18 Dey 1404
On 18 Dey 1404, 16 people of Qarchak were killed; more than half of all the names on this page in a single day. The next day, 19 Dey 1404, 3 more lost their lives. In all, 28 names belong to the year 1404 and 2 names to the year 1401: one on 4 Khordad 1401 and the other on 1 Mehr 1401. The ages range from 15 to 52 years, and the median is 33 years. 3 of these 30 people were under 18, and the sources have written of 3 people that they were women.
Leila Shokri and Farzaneh Jahanbakhshi
Leila Shokri, 43 years old, was “the mother of 3 children”; “her three daughters are 16, 11 and two years old.” Her origins went back to the Kurds of Hamadan, and in the videos that remain of her she laughs, dances and sings Kurdish songs. When she heard of the call to protest, she was not in Qarchak, but she came back. She had told those close to her: “The young people must not be left alone in the street.” On the night of 19 Dey she was targeted by snipers in the area of Kalantari Square and died a few hours later in hospital. To identify her body, her family “were forced to search among dozens of corpses.”
Farzaneh Jahanbakhshi, 46 years old, was “the head of her household” and “the mother of a 19-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son, and her daughter's wedding was to be held in that same month of Dey.” Before going out on the night of 18 Dey she had said: “I'm going to get my rights and my children's rights.” She was wounded by four bullets and lost her life in the operating room.
Amir Yektaei Yeganeh
Amir Yektaei Yeganeh, 16 years old, played in the Arzesh Varamin football team and “at the same time was also a DJ and a percussion player.” He was spoken of as one of the promising talents of Varamin football, and those close to him say: “He was full of talent, energy and the passion for life.” On the evening of 18 Dey 1404 he was targeted at Kalantari Square in Qarchak from the top of the Centennial building. His fortieth-day memorial in Esfand, coinciding with his birthday, was held under the shadow of the presence of security forces, and even his memorial banners were torn down.
The men of Qarchak
Seyed Hamid Salehi, 33 years old, of Bakhtiari origin and owner of an industrial workshop, was shot in the head on 19 Dey 1404, “four days after his birthday,” from the roof of the Centennial tower with a silenced weapon; his family found his body in Kahrizak. Javad Shayegan Malek, 37 years old, “father of two children,” was also targeted from the top of the same building; according to the source, after he was taken to Sattari Hospital they gave him the coup de grâce. Davoud Saadat, who “had one daughter and one son,” was a passionate Persepolis supporter and was killed by a bullet in the area of Kalantari Square.
