This page keeps the memory of 51 people whose names are linked with Saveh, in the Markazi province. The list begins on 11 Dey 1388 and reaches 4 Esfand 1404. 27 of these people were killed in protests, 23 were executed and one person was killed by government forces outside the protests. Almost all of these names, 45 names, belong to the year 1404 alone.
Years and days
Before 1404, the names from Saveh can be counted on one hand: 2 names in 1388, one name in 1390, one name in 1398 and 2 names in 1403. But in Dey 1404 Saveh saw great grief: on 18 Dey 1404, 9 people were killed; before that, on 15 Dey 1404, 2 people, and after that, on 19 Dey 1404, 2 more. The days 11 Dey 1388 and 5 Azar 1403 also have two names each.
The ages range from 12 to 44 years, and the median is 27 years. 4 of these 51 people were under 18; the youngest of them was only 12 years old. The sources have written of 3 people that they were women.
Ardeshir Zarei
Ardeshir Zarei, 44 years old, son of Rahman, was among the first of those killed in Saveh in Dey 1404. The source writes: “Ardeshir was a Yarsan citizen, a worker and the father of three young children.” The names of his children appear in the source: “Danial,” “Mardin” and “Bania.” He “suffered from heart disease.” On 15 Dey 1404, according to the sources, he lost his life in the protests in Saveh from the shooting of security forces. For the handover of his body, according to the source, up to one billion tomans was demanded. He was to be buried in the village of Darvit in the Gouran district of Dalahu county.
Navid Nazemi Maleki and Saeed Kalvandi
Navid Nazemi Maleki, 17 years old, was “a school student and a rapper.” The source has only one sentence about him: “In his works he sang about the problems of the people.” He was killed on 18 Dey 1404 in Saveh; an adolescent who had raised his voice for others, and of whom now only this one sentence remains in our sources.
Saeed Kalvandi, 31 years old, married and “father of two children,” was also killed on the same day. One of the sources introduces him as “a 31-year-old Kurdish young man from Hamadan” and writes: “He was the father of two daughters aged 7 and 4.” According to the source, he was severely wounded in the leg by a military bullet. His body was not handed over to the family until 23 Dey 1404, and the security bodies did not allow him to be taken to his birthplace; the family were forced to bury him here in Saveh.
Names without a description
For most of the 51 people on this page, the sources have written nothing but a name, a date and sometimes an age. We do not know who those executed in Saveh, who are nearly half of this page, were, what work they did or who waited for them. Details of life are available for only 4 people. Anyone who knows one of these names can give this page a new face.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 51 names are not all of those from Saveh who lost their lives; the real number is higher and the names of many have not been published. For Saveh, too, we have recorded only a name that has at least one source. The sources of this page are HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 25 cases, Iran International with 22, the Iran Human Rights Society with 18, iranhrs.org with 14, HRANA with 13, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center and Independent Persian with 3 each, and IranWire and Kurdpa with 2 cases each. 3 names also appear in a list that the Office of the Presidency published on 12 Bahman 1404. Some entries rest on only one report.
If you knew one of these people of Saveh, we ask you to send us your memory or correction.
