This page keeps the memory of 20 people who were killed in protests in Shahreza, in the province of Isfahan. Only one fate is recorded in the list for Shahreza: all of these 20 people gave their lives in protests. And all the dates that are known on this page fall within three days: from 18 Dey 1404 to 20 Dey 1404.
Three days
On 18 Dey 1404, 4 of those whose day of death we know were killed; on 19 Dey 1404, 4 more, and on 20 Dey 1404 one person who had fought with his wound for two days. All 20 names belong to the year 1404, but for most of them the sources have not written the exact day of death. The ages range from 17 to 42 years, and the median is 33 years. 2 of these 20 people were under 18. The sources have not written of any of these 20 people that they were a woman.
Taha Naderi Semiromi
Taha Naderi Semiromi was 18 years old. The source writes: “Taha loved football and always said, ‘I want to become independent soon’.” On 18 Dey 1404 a bullet struck the main artery of his leg. According to the source, “between 18 and 20 Dey he was operated on several times to stop the damage,” and “he went through two hard days to stay alive, but on Saturday, 20 Dey 1404, he could not hold on and lost his life.”
His mother, Sorour Sarvari, is a poet and political activist. The source writes that after the death of her son she “has been banned from activity under security pressure.” Taha's gravestone in the cemetery of Shahreza was destroyed; not even his grave was left in peace.
Amirabbas Baghestani
Amirabbas Baghestani is recorded in our list as 17 years old, although one of the reports calls him 18. The source has only one sentence about him: “Amirabbas Baghestani was on the verge of receiving his diploma.” He was killed on 19 Dey 1404 in the protests in Shahreza; according to the source, “a military bullet struck Amirabbas Baghestani in the thigh.” An adolescent who would have finished school a few months later never received his diploma.
Mostafa Safian
Mostafa Safian was 40 years old and unmarried. The source writes: “He had a Nissan and worked as a haulier.” In the protests in Shahreza, according to the source, “the forces of the Islamic Republic fired two pellet rounds at him from the front, and from behind they also hit Mostafa with a military bullet.” The date our list has recorded for his death is 19 Dey 1404.
After his death, his family were told to come to the funeral with no more than 10 people. According to the source, “under security pressure, Mostafa Safian's body was buried without a ceremony and in silence.” A man who for years had carried other people's loads was laid to rest with a few of those close to him.
Sources and the incompleteness of the list
These 20 names are not all of those killed in Shahreza. The real number is higher, and the names of many of those who gave their lives in those three days have not yet been published; this page shows only names that have a source. The sources of this page are HRANA / Human Rights Activists in Iran with 17 cases, Iran International and iranhrs.org with 11 each, Persian Wikipedia with 5, Hengaw and IranWire with 4 each, the Iran Human Rights Society with 3, iranintl.com and Iran International with 2 each, and the human rights organisation Hana with one case. A description of life is available for only 4 people, and some entries have one source.
If you knew one of these 20 people, if you were a classmate of Amirabbas or a teammate of Taha, or if Mostafa once moved your load with his Nissan, we ask you to send us your memory or correction so that the names of the sixteen people who still have no description may also find a face.
