- Mehrdad Yaghoubi-Mehr, a chemical engineer who had recently been admitted to a doctoral programme in the same field at Sharif University of Technology, was killed on 19 Dey in the protests in Qaleh Hassan Khan, Tehran. One of his acquaintances told the BBC that he was killed by sniper fire. This informed source added: "A large number of people in Dorud were arrested in the Dey 1404 protests, and close to 20 residents of this town were killed, mostly in Tehran. Mehrdad was the only one of the Dorud kids whose body had a funeral procession on the day." He said: "Two years ago Mehrdad got a scholarship abroad but preferred to stay in Iran for the sake of his father and mother. He cared about the people." One of Mehrdad Yaghoubi-Mehr's fellow students wrote a memory of him in a post on social media: "It was Azar 1401. Student Day. The university was almost empty. Everyone had gone to the celebration, to get gifts, to laugh. I saw him in the laboratory. I asked: didn't you go to the celebration? He said seriously: 'In these days, can one really celebrate? What does celebration even mean?'"
