8 Mehr 1401 in Zahedan

Two of those killed on that day whose life stories are available had gone to the Makki prayer hall in Zahedan for Friday prayers. Omid Shahnavazi, 20 years old, was a construction worker and the father of a two-year-old daughter. The source says he “had not gone to school because he had no birth certificate as a child,” but he had studied religion at the mosque and had become a mawlawi (cleric). He was killed by three sniper bullets. Farzad Shahbakhsh, 26 years old, was an apprentice tiler and, with his older brother, supported a family of eight. He was killed in the prayer hall of the Makki Mosque by a bullet from behind to the heart. This question from those close to him remains: “He had come to pray. Is praying a crime?”

Ali Kordkolahouri, 25 years old, a primary school teacher in the village of Bourta and a master's student, was also a master builder; the source says “many of the houses and gardens of the village of Bourta in Mirjaveh are a legacy of his labour.” He was killed on 13 Aban 1401 opposite the governor's office in Khash by a bullet to the head.

In prison

Habibollah Riginejad Shouraki, 33 years old, a cloth seller and the father of a 3-year-old daughter, saw his wife and daughter for the first time after 15 months in solitary confinement. He was executed on 4 Aban 1392 together with 15 others in Zahedan Prison, without his lawyer or family being informed. Zakaria Rigi, 27 years old, was the prayer leader of the prison mosque and taught the Quran there. According to the source, the head of the prison's intelligence protection unit struck him on the head with an electric baton and threw him, bleeding, into solitary confinement; the next day, 28 Esfand 1390, news of his death came. The prison officials said he had committed suicide, but this sentence from those close to him has been quoted: “He was not the kind to commit suicide!” Emran Dehvari, a medical student and hafiz of the Quran, also died in suspicious circumstances on 30 Aban 1395 at his home in Zahedan.

About this list

The list of the Javid-Nam in Sistan and Baluchestan is not complete. The real number of those killed and executed from Zahedan, Zabol, Iranshahr and the other cities of this province is higher, and we record only a name that has a source. The largest share comes from the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center with 504 cases; followed by the Iran Human Rights Society with 361, Haalvsh with 200 and Persian Wikipedia with 140 cases. Every name from this province has at least one source, but some only one. For 192 people a description of their life is available. If you knew one of these 828 people, share your memory or correction with us.
