Some lives

Farzad Kamangar, 35 years old, was a teacher in Kamyaran for twelve years. The source says he “deeply believed in peaceful civil struggle to end discrimination.” In the last days of his life he wrote a letter titled “Be strong, comrade” to imprisoned teachers. Farzad was executed on 19 Ordibehesht 1389 in Evin Prison without the knowledge of his lawyer and family, and was buried in an unknown place. One of his acquaintances said: “The gentleness of Farzad's feelings and pen was something rarely matched.”

Zahra Bahrami, 45 years old, mother of two daughters and a son, made a living from Indian dance and had learned to play the sitar in Rotterdam. A fellow prisoner considered her “a cheerful and lively woman” and very kind. She was executed at dawn on 9 Bahman 1389, and her body was buried without her family present. Khadijeh (Shahla) Jahed, 41 years old, a nurse who studied psychology in prison, was executed on 10 Azar 1389.

Mohammad Mokhtari, 21 years old, a final-semester mining engineering student who played the piano, was wounded by a bullet on 25 Bahman 1389 in the protests in Tehran and lost his life in hospital. His last writing was: “God, grant me to die standing, for I am tired of living seated in humiliation.” His brother said: “Mohammad loved freedom, he loved life.” Abdolreza Soudbakhsh, 61 years old, an infectious disease specialist, was killed on 30 Shahrivar 1389 in front of his clinic in Tehran by shots from motorcyclists. Hossein Khezri, 28 years old, who had worked in a carpet-weaving workshop and according to his lawyer had lost 70 percent of his eyesight, was secretly executed on 25 Dey 1389 in Urmia Prison; his family heard the news from television, and his burial place was never told to them. Shirin Alam Holi Atashgah, 29 years old, who had learned carpet weaving since childhood and studied up to the fifth grade in prison, was executed on 19 Ordibehesht 1389, the same day as Farzad Kamangar, in Evin Prison.
