This page keeps the memory of 115 university students; people about whom the sources, in the description of their lives, have spoken of their university and their field of study. The first date on this page is 21 Farvardin 1388 and the last 25 Shahrivar 1405. 76 of them were killed in protests and 18 were executed. 12 lost their lives in custody, 2 were killed outside the protests, one died after release from custody and one in suspicious circumstances. 4 have been sentenced to death and one faces a charge that carries the death penalty.
From 1388 to 1404
The names of students appear most of all in three periods. In the year 1388, 18 students lost their lives; 6 on 30 Khordad 1388 and 4 on 25 Khordad 1388. In the year 1401, 17 students. And in the year 1404, 50 students; 28 of them on 18 Dey 1404 and 9 on 19 Dey 1404. The year 1395 also has 9 names, and on one day of it, 12 Mordad 1395, the names of 8 students are recorded. Tehran with 33 names and Karaj with 17 names have the largest share.
The ages range from 14 to 47 years, and the median is 22 years. 5 people were under 18, and the sources have written of 18 people that they were women. For 105 of these 115 people we have a description of life.
Dey 1404
Ahmad Khosravani, 21 years old, a student at Sharif University from Eyvan-e Gharb, was a basketball player on the Farzan Shemiran team and held the title of best player of the Tehran league in 1404. His father was a disabled war veteran. His family have said that when he was to be buried beside his father's grave, the agents said that because he was taller than the size of the grave, “we have to break his legs so that he fits into the grave.”
Rubina Aminian, 22 years old, a final-year textile design student, was shot from behind near the Shariati faculty. Amirali Zarei, 35 years old, a student at the University of Art who spoke of self-knowledge and hope, was killed before the eyes of his sister. Negin Ghadimi, 28 years old, a biotechnology graduate and “a cheerful girl who loved painting and swimming,” lost her life in Tonekabon in her father's arms; this cry of hers from that moment is remembered: “Dad, it burns... it burns.” Rasoul Jafari, 19 years old, in Esfarayen, who loved Dariush's song “Talayedar,” had written to his friends before his death: “We have understood peace.”
Before that
Mohammad Mokhtari, 21 years old, a final-semester mining engineering student who played the piano and wore a green wristband, was killed on 25 Bahman 1389 in Tehran. His brother has said: “Mohammad loved freedom, he loved life.” Alireza Madadpour, 38 years old, a final-year accounting student who worked as a labourer to pay for his studies, was executed on 6 Shahrivar 1395 in Karaj. Mohammadyavar Rahimi, 31 years old, who had given up mathematics because of poverty, was executed together with his brother on 12 Mordad 1395; on his death certificate they wrote the cause of death as “respiratory illness.” The charges in these executions are the account of the authorities, not a verdict of guilt.
